Steel Bifolding Doors for New Italian Restaurant, Slough
This project involved the installation of a pair of bespoke steel bifolding doors for a new Italian restaurant opening in Slough, located within a busy, active shopping precinct.
The doors form the main frontage to the restaurant and were designed to make a strong visual statement while remaining robust enough for a high-footfall commercial environment. Each bifold set measures an impressive 6 metres wide by 3.3 metres tall, creating a fully openable façade that will allow the restaurant to open itself up to the public space during trading hours.
Working in a Live Public Environment
Because the unit sits directly onto a pedestrian thoroughfare, public safety was a key consideration throughout the installation. Extra care was taken at every stage to ensure there was no risk to passers-by:
- The working area was carefully controlled and clearly defined
- Installation works were planned to minimise disruption during peak footfall times
- Manual handling and glazing operations were carried out with additional manpower and supervision
- Tools, materials, and glass were never left unattended within public reach
These precautions were essential due to the size and weight of the steel frames and glazing, particularly when manoeuvring components into position.
Design and Finish
The steel bifolds were finished in a dark, understated tone to suit the restaurant branding and surrounding commercial units. Large glazed panels maximise visibility into the space, helping the restaurant establish a strong street presence even before opening.
Temporary restaurant graphics were applied behind the glazing during the fit-out phase, allowing the client to promote the upcoming opening while works continued safely inside the unit.
A Careful, Controlled Installation
Despite the challenges of scale and location, the installation was completed efficiently and without incident. This project highlights our experience working in live commercial settings, where careful planning, clear communication, and respect for the public environment are just as important as the quality of the finished doors themselves.
