Schüco Glazing Overhaul in Abingdon, Oxfordshire – Bifolding Doors & Tilt and Turn Windows

At Doorveloper, we’re often called upon to put right what others have installed poorly—and this recent project in Abingdon, Oxfordshire is a perfect example. This beautiful home featured a premium Schüco glazing system, including bifolding doors and tilt-and-turn windows, but despite the high-end product, the installation left much to be desired.
We carried out a full overhaul across the property, restoring performance, correcting structural issues, and leaving the glazing functioning as it should have from day one.
Comprehensive Overhaul of Four Schüco Bifolding Doors
Schüco bifolds are built for smooth, effortless operation—but only when they’re installed and set up correctly. These four doors were suffering from a range of problems, including misalignment and stiffness.
Our Process
Each bifolding door underwent a complete overhaul, which we define as:
Removing all the glass to take the door back to its bare frame.
Resetting, adjusting, and repairing each component in the system.
Reinstalling the glass with precise alignment—this step alone solves many common bifold issues.
One particular door required more intensive work. The opening was simply too small, and the door had been forced into place. To resolve this:
We removed the door,
Ground down the base to create adequate space,
And then reinstalled it to operate exactly as it should.
All four bifolds were restored to near-new condition, complete with our 12-month guarantee.
Overhaul of 10 Tilt and Turn Windows
We also worked on 10 Schüco tilt and turn windows, many of which had been poorly installed, causing:
- Bow in the frame, preventing gaskets from sealing properly, leading to draughts.
- Incorrect silicone work, which compromised both appearance and performance.
The Fix
We cut back the original silicone and reset each window frame to remove any distortion.
Finally, we reapplied colour-matched silicone, restoring both form and function.
The result? Ten fully operational, draft-free, smooth-turning tilt-and-turn windows, performing to the standard you’d expect from Schüco.
Why Proper Installation Matters
This project in Abingdon, Oxfordshire is a reminder that even premium glazing systems like Schüco can fail if they’re installed incorrectly. Misaligned glass, warped frames, and incorrect sealing can lead to long-term performance issues, no matter how expensive the system.
At Doorveloper, we have the experience and knowledge to put these problems right—and to make sure they stay that way.
