Bespoke Metallic Gold Steel Glazing – Painswick, Gloucestershire
This project involved a carefully detailed internal steel glazing installation within a character property in Painswick, Gloucestershire, designed to divide spaces while preserving light, height and openness.
The works included three bespoke elements:
- A steel bathroom enclosure within a guest bedroom, incorporating a sliding pocket door. This allowed the en-suite to be discreetly concealed when not in use, while still feeling connected and light when open.
- A large double steel door, approximately 4 metres tall, complete with a fixed top light. This was used to separate the dining area from the lounge without compromising the visual flow between the two spaces.
- A matching fixed steel window, also around 4 metres in height, providing balance and continuity across the elevation and reinforcing the architectural rhythm of the room.
All elements were finished in a metallic gold, a refined and warm tone that sits beautifully alongside the exposed stonework, original timbers and softer interior finishes. At this scale, accuracy is critical—proportions, alignment and tolerances were all carefully managed to ensure the glazing felt elegant and intentional rather than dominant.
This project is a strong example of how bespoke steel glazing can be used internally to define areas, introduce structure and add a sense of occasion, while still allowing light to move freely through the home.
